Breast Augmentation RecoveryFAQ

I am itching one day after surgery. Is that normal?

Itching can occur due to medication, healing, skin stretching, or the dressing and bandages. However, if serious redness or pus develops, please contact your doctor because it may be an infection.

I feel a sharp point on my breast that feels like a sewing needle. What could this be?

It could be a fold or 'ripple' in your implant. The best course of action is to let it be and book an appointment to have your surgeon assess it.

I had a revision surgery, and one implant is slightly lower. Is this normal?

It depends. It takes four to six months for the implants to settle. If the implants remain uneven at that point, you should consult with your plastic surgeon.

I am four months post-surgery, and I do not like the results. What can I do?

It depends on the issue. If you are unhappy with the implant size, you can discuss your options for a revision with larger or smaller implants.

I am still swelling eight days after surgery. Is this normal?

Yes, swelling is extremely normal at this stage and will improve with time.

Should I use moisturizer or oils on my breasts while they heal?

No. These can harm the skin and delay the recovery process.

The skin on my breasts is rippling and sagging. What can I do?

The skin and tissue covering the implants have likely thinned out. This is a difficult problem to fix, but there are options, including fat grafting or dermal coverage to hide the ripples.

Breast Implant RemovalFAQ

I have had silicone implants for 25 years, and one of them ruptured. Will my breasts look relatively normal without implants?

Possibly. You can remove them and see how you feel. If you are not happy with your new appearance after three to four months, you can have new implants placed.

I want to remove 600 implants. Will my breasts look normal without them?

You will likely need some kind of revision surgery to be happy with the results, for example, a breast lift or a smaller implant.

When can I exercise after implant removal?

It depends on how extensive the surgery was. For example, a capsulectomy would require a longer recovery period, while you will be able to resume exercise more quickly with a simple implant removal.

Breast LiftFAQ

Am I a breast lift candidate? I am 5’6 and 140 pounds. My breasts are currently 32/34DDD, and my shoulders always hurt.

If your goal is to lift your breasts without reducing their size, a breast lift is the right approach. However, if you also want to address pain from large breasts, you will also need a breast reduction. For concrete recommendations, a plastic surgeon would need to evaluate you in person.

Can I reduce the size of my areola during a breast lift?

Yes, it is possible and often recommended to ensure optimal results.

Breast ReconstructionFAQ

Can I enhance my implant size after reconstruction?

Yes. However, a surgeon will need to evaluate the skin integrity after your mastectomy.

How do I find a surgeon for breast reconstruction?

Check for local board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons in your area.

Breast ReductionFAQ

Should I lose weight before scheduling my breast reduction?

It depends. In general, it is best to be at your ideal weight before breast reduction surgery. If you lose weight after, your breasts may sag.

Mommy MakeoverFAQ

Can I have a tummy tuck and breast reduction at the same time?

I often combine these procedures in my practice. They complement each other well and offer stunning results.

How much weight should I lose before a Mommy Makeover?

Ideally, you should be as close to your optimal weight as possible. This will ensure optimal results and an easier recovery period.

Brazilian Butt LiftFAQ

What questions should I ask during a consultation for a Brazilian butt lift?

  • Are you a board-certified plastic surgeon? (It is important to see a board-certified surgeon, not a cosmetic surgeon, to ensure a successful and safe procedure.)
  • How many Brazilian butt lifts do you perform each year?
  • Can I see any before and after pictures?
  • What size cannula do you use for liposuction? (A small cannula is best because it prevents divots and dents in the skin and allows your surgeon to sculpt the body. It takes longer, but the results are remarkably better.)
  • Is my current weight appropriate for the procedure?
  • How many areas will require liposuction?
  • What results can I expect?
  • Can I speak to any of your patients who have had the procedure?
  • What is the recovery like?
  • What complications should I be aware of?

Can I get a small butt with this surgery? Does size impact pricing?

The Brazilian butt lift can be completely tailored to your needs and goals. In terms of pricing, my office offers a price range depending on the number of areas we need to target. If you require less fat for a smaller butt, we will liposuction fewer areas, resulting in a lower investment. However, if we need to liposuction multiple areas to get enough fat (because there is not enough in your abdomen alone), the investment will go up.

How to Prepare for Your ConsultationFAQ

Once you have scheduled your appointment, we will email you paperwork to complete before your arrival.

Please write down your questions to ensure that you get the answers you need. Some questions you may want to ask include:

Are you certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?

Any 'board certification' other than being board-certified in plastic surgery usually indicates that the doctor had significantly less training. Always verify that your surgeon is board-certified in plastic surgery by searching their name at the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Firouz is double board-certified in plastic surgery and general surgery.

Are you authorized to perform this procedure, and do you have privileges at a hospital?

Plastic surgeons who are trained to perform certain procedures are allowed to perform them at hospitals. Hospitals review their education and training and have committees in place to monitor potential problems and ensure patient protection. Dr. Firouz has privileges at Cedars-Sinai.

Do you operate in an accredited facility?

An accredited facility is a member of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). This accreditation reflects an optimal standard of care. It’s not legally required, but it is better to choose an accredited facility that you know is following cleanliness, sterility, and other safety standards.

After Your ConsultationFAQ

After your consultation, you will want to reflect on the information you learned. Ask yourself:

He treats every patient like a member of his family, making sure they have answers to all their questions and feel completely comfortable every step along the way.

Are you comfortable with the staff?

From our front office staff to the nurses, you can expect respect and kindness at every turn. Our team is available to book your procedure and guide you on your journey. You will even have access to our Plastic Surgery Coordinator’s personal cell phone number, so you can call or text her if needed.
