Labiaplasty, or more commonly known as vaginal rejuvenation, has become one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures and has incredibly high satisfaction rates! Although our patients love the results of their labiaplasty, it is still something very few women are talking about openly.
At The Firouz Institute of Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery, it is our goal to make sure women are fully educated on the labiaplasty procedure. Below are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about labiaplasty.
Q: What is labiaplasty surgery?
A: Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to restore, reshape, and improve the function and cosmetic appearance of the labia. With labiaplasty surgery, Dr. Firouz can reduce large labia (both labia minora and labia majora). Some patients request this procedure for purely cosmetic reasons, while other women need labiaplasty for function and comfort-related reasons.
Q: Who should perform my labiaplasty?
A: Labiaplasty should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive expertise in the procedure. Because this procedure is becoming more popular, various types of surgeons are beginning to offer this surgery. However, to ensure you get the best results possible, it is very important to seek out a labiaplasty specialist, like Dr. Firouz, who has been successfully performing the surgery for years.
Q: I have read a lot about laser labiaplasty, is this a good option?
A: There are many new non-surgical labiaplasty treatments that are being advertised to women. However, Dr. Firouz strongly believes that surgical labiaplasty still offers the best and most reliable results. Laser labiaplasty options generally take several treatments and the results aren’t as precise as the surgical results. Additionally, laser labiaplasty is not effective for patients who need more significant labia reduction.
Q: How long does labiaplasty surgery take?
A: Each labiaplasty surgery is unique to the needs of the patient. In general, labiaplasty surgery takes about 1 to 2 hours. The procedure is performed at an outpatient surgery center and patients can return home to recover the same day as surgery.
Q: What is labiaplasty recovery like?
A: Overall, labiaplasty recovery is much easier than patients think it will be. Most patients experience 1 day of discomfort and after that any lingering pain can be managed with Tylenol. You can return to work after 3 – 5 days. However, you should not go on any long, strenuous walks for a couple of weeks following surgery. Dr. Firouz will let you know when it is ok for you to return to your normal exercise routine. Additionally, Dr. Firouz tells his patients to abstain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks following surgery to ensure everything heals properly.
Q: I haven’t had children yet, can I have a labiaplasty?
A: Yes, if you are unhappy or uncomfortable with the shape and appearance of your labia, you can have a labiaplasty.
Q: What do patient’s like most about the results of labiaplasty?
A: After labiaplasty, our patients tell Dr. Firouz that they feel more confident and feminine! They tell us they look better in their yoga pants and bikini bottoms and experience an overall boost in their day-to-day happiness.
Q: I am considering a breast augmentation and labiaplasty, can I have them both at the same time?
A: Absolutely! Many patients opt to undergo breast enhancement procedures, including breast implants, breast lift, or breast reduction, at the same time as their labiaplasty surgery. Some patients also choose to undergo liposuction or a tummy tuck at this time; this combination is commonly referred to as a Mommy Makeover. For healthy patients, Dr. Firouz will recommend the combination procedures if you are thinking about other procedures at the same time as your labiaplasty because you are already going to be under anesthesia and taking the time off to recover from surgery. If you are considering multiple procedures, please let Dr. Firouz know during your consultation.
