Bottoming-out

Bottoming-out implants occur when either one or both breast implants have descended too low on the chest. In this condition, the breast implant has moved below the breast crease, making the breast appear “bottom heavy” and the nipple moves up too high.

What causes bottoming out?

  • There are a variety of things that can cause bottoming out implants:
  • Can occur naturally over time due to the weight of the implant.
  • Very large implants in a patient with small, high breasts may have no place to fill other than below the breast pocket, causing the bottoming out.
  • Heavy lifting and strenuous exercises are other causes.

What are the symptoms of bottoming out?
