Dr. Firouz can perform buccal fat reduction under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on your needs and if you are combining the surgery with other procedures. To begin, he will make an incision inside your cheek so he can access the buccal fat pad. Then, he will place pressure in the area to expose the fat so that he can remove what is necessary to achieve your desired outcome. Once he has extracted the fat pads, he will close the incisions with sutures.

Your Recovery

You will return home immediately after surgery to begin the healing process. Dr. Firouz will give you a special mouth rinse to prevent infection, and you will need to adopt a liquid diet of soups and smoothies for the first 24 hours. After that, continue to avoid hard and crunchy foods for at least one week.

You can expect some swelling and numbness at the incision sites, but these effects should dissipate as your body heals. Most of our patients can return to work within one week. However, avoid lifting heavy objects and strenuous exercise for two to three weeks.
