Discreet. Natural. Balanced.

Ears that are too large, too small, or poorly positioned can detract from your overall appearance. Otoplasty can sculpt more discreet ears that blend in rather than stand out.

What Can Ear Surgery Do for You?

  • Reposition protruding ears
  • Sculpt smaller or larger ears
  • Correct abnormally shaped ears due to congenital defects, injury, or trauma

Types of Ear Surgery

Ear Augmentation

If you have small ears or ears that have not fully developed, ear augmentation can increase the size of your outer ears.

Ear Pinning

If your ears stick out prominently, ear pinning can position them closer to your head.

Ear Reduction

If your ears are too large for the rest of your features, otoplasty can reduce the size of your outer ears.

The Otoplasty Procedure

Dr. Firouz will perform your otoplasty under local anesthesia. The surgery will take between one and three hours, depending on the complexity of your surgery.

To begin, he will make an incision on the back of your ear or hidden within the ear folds. Through those openings, he will adjust the underlying tissue. This process may include removing cartilage, folding and reshaping cartilage, or grafting cartilage to the ear, depending on your unique needs.

Once your ears have been shaped, Dr. Firouz will close the incisions with fine sutures and place a dressing to protect the area.

Your Recovery

After otoplasty, it is important to keep your dressing clean and dry. Avoid touching your ears and wearing tight-fitting clothes that you need to pull over your head. You should also sleep on your back and avoid placing pressure on your ears.

The initial bandages will be removed within one week and replaced with smaller dressings. Your full recovery will take about eight weeks, but you should notice improvements within two weeks.

Ear SurgeryFAQ

Am I a candidate for otoplasty?

As long as your ears are fully developed and you are in good physical and emotional health, you are probably a candidate for otoplasty. Dr. Firouz can confirm your candidacy during your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills office.

Does insurance cover otoplasty?

No, insurance companies typically do not cover otoplasty because it is viewed as a cosmetic procedure.

What are the risks of otoplasty?

When it is done by a board-certified plastic surgeon, otoplasty is extremely safe and has a low complication rate. Potential risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, overcorrection, and asymmetrical ear placement.

Will the scars be visible?

No, your otoplasty scars should not be visible. Dr. Firouz will ensure that they are well hidden behind the ear or within the ear’s natural folds.
