Understanding Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is another word for excessive sweating. Normal sweating has a purpose: it helps your body regulate your temperature. When you have hyperhidrosis, you sweat when you do not need to, like when you are at rest or in a cold environment.

There are two forms of hyperhidrosis:

  • Primary focal hyperhidrosis is an inheritable condition. It usually affects the feet, face, hands, and underarms. Symptoms first appear before age 25.
  • Secondary generalized hyperhidrosis is caused by a medication or medical condition, such as diabetes.

Because many people are embarrassed by hyperhidrosis, your condition can impact your mental and emotional health. You may even find yourself limiting activities that could potentially reveal your condition.

Stop Sweating with BOTOX Injections

BOTOX injections are one of the most effective treatments for excessive sweating. By injecting BOTOX directly into the areas of your body that sweat excessively, we paralyze the overactive nerves. Paralyzed nerves cannot reach your sweat glands, so sweating ceases. We can inject BOTOX virtually anywhere, with the most common sites being the palms, face, and soles of the feet.

Your BOTOX Experience

Your BOTOX injections will take about 20 minutes, depending on the number of treatment areas. During your appointment, we will cleanse the area, mark the injection sites, and inject the BOTOX just below the surface of your skin.

Each treatment area will receive about 20 injections. If you are having your palms or the soles of your feet treated, you may experience some pain and tenderness. If so, we can apply numbing agents to keep you comfortable during treatment.

After Your Injections

As with BOTOX injections on the face, you can immediately return to work and your normal daily routine. However, you should avoid rubbing the area for 24 hours and wait at least two hours before engaging in strenuous activity.

How Effective are BOTOX Injections for Sweating?

They tend to be very effective for most people. You will start to notice a decrease in sweat between two and four days. Within two weeks, the full effect of your injections will be apparent.

The results are temporary, so you will need to schedule maintenance treatments moving forward. Most people need repeat injections every six to 16 months, depending on the treatment area.

Excessive Sweating TreatmentFAQ

Am I a candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX tends to be safe and effective for most people. As long as you are healthy, not allergic to any of the ingredients, and are not taking blood thinners, you will likely be a candidate.

Does BOTOX really work for excessive sweating?

Yes, most people experience a significant decrease in sweat production two weeks after the procedure. The effects are temporary, but they can be significant. This is especially true if excessive sweating is harming your mental health and stopping you from participating in your favorite activities.

Are there any side effects of BOTOX?

Most people are able to receive BOTOX injections without any negative side effects. When they do occur, they are mild and include temporary bruising, swelling, and redness.
