How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling creates micro-channels in the skin to create minor injuries. Your body responds to these injuries by increasing collagen and elastin production and stimulating cellular renewal. These processes result in the emergence of new skin that is smoother, firmer, and more even.

What Can Microneedling Do for You?

  • Minimize stretch marks, pores, and other imperfections
  • Improve your skin’s tone and texture
  • Smooth and firm skin
  • Reduce acne scars
  • Soften fine lines
  • Correct hyperpigmentation

The Benefits

Your Microneedling Experience

To begin your microneedling treatment, we will apply a topical anesthetic to numb your skin. Once the medication has taken effect, we will create micro-channels in your skin using a medical-grade, stainless steel device that has needles on the tip. We will also apply a serum or plasma to penetrate your skin and boost your results. During this process, you may feel some discomfort as the needles prick your skin, but it should be tolerable.

After Microneedling

It is common to notice some redness in the treatment area for up to five days. This is your body’s response to the injuries made by the microneedling device. You can return to work and school as soon as you are comfortable. However, you should not apply makeup until your skin has healed, and you should avoid direct sun exposure and sweating for about one week.

Microneedling vs CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

Microneedling and CO2 laser skin resurfacing are very different treatments for surface skin irregularities. When compared to laser treatments, microneedling is less extensive, less painful, and less expensive. It may also be better for people with darker skin tones, because there is less risk of post-treatment pigmentation issues.

And finally, microneedling is better if you need to address earlier signs of aging and mild imperfections. Conversely, CO2 laser skin resurfacing is more effective at addressing deep imperfections and advanced signs of aging. During your initial consultation with Dr. Firouz, he can discuss the different approaches with you and help you determine which one is right for you.

Chemical PeelsFAQ

Am I a candidate for microneedling?

Because it is a safe and minimally invasive approach, microneedling tends to be appropriate for most people. However, there are some exceptions. If you have active acne, certain skin conditions, or a history of abnormal scarring, you may benefit from a different procedure.

When will I see the results?

You will see the results of your microneedling treatment fairly quickly, usually within just a couple of weeks.

How many sessions will I need?

We recommend three or more treatments spaced four to six weeks apart for optimal results.
