Relieve Chronic Pain and Soften Your Jawline

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is characterized by clenching or grinding your teeth involuntarily due to stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, and more.

This constant tension can result in a masculine jawline, jaw pain, chronic headaches, and more. When injected into the masseter muscle, BOTOX can help ease these painful symptoms while also creating a softer and more feminine jawline.

TMJ Symptoms

The symptoms of TMJ can be debilitating. They often include:

  • Jaw pain, popping, and clicking
  • An inability to fully open or close the jaw
  • Involuntary teeth clenching and grinding
  • Chronic tension headaches
  • Neck and shoulder pain

What can TMJ BOTOX Do for You?

  • Reduce the severity and frequency of headaches
  • Relieve jaw tension due to teeth grinding
  • Restore your ability to chew comfortably
  • Create a more feminine jawline

How Does TMJ BOTOX Work?

BOTOX relaxes muscles by blocking nerve signals to the area. When the injections are done for anti-aging effects, they relax the muscles causing facial wrinkles. When they are done for TMJ, they relax the masseter muscle, which is responsible for chewing, biting, and facial movements.

Your TMJ BOTOX Experience

TMJ Botox injections take less than ten minutes to complete. Dr. Firouz will cleanse your face and mark the injection sites before placing about three injections on each side of your jaw.

You will be free to return to work and your normal daily routine right away. You should notice less pain and tension within a couple of days, and the full effects of your TMJ BOTOX will appear in about two weeks.

After Your Injections

You can return to work and your normal daily routine right away. However, avoid rubbing the treatment area for 24 hours, and you should wait at least two hours before engaging in strenuous activity.

TMJ BOTOX TreatmentFAQ

Am I a candidate for TMJ BOTOX?

If you have tried other TMJ treatment methods, such as night guards and medications, and you are still experiencing symptoms, you may want to try BOTOX. You will likely be a candidate as long as you are in good health, not allergic to any of BOTOX’s ingredients, and are not taking blood thinners.

How long will the pain relief last?

The effects of your TMJ BOTOX injections will last four to six months. We recommend scheduling your follow-up treatments when the symptoms start to return.

Will TMJ BOTOX change the shape of my face?

Because BOTOX relaxes the underlying masseter muscle, it will impact the shape of your face. In many women, this is a desired change because it slims their face and restores youthful curves to your profile.

What is the masseter muscle?

The masseter muscle is a prominent facial muscle that allows you to chew foods. You have two masseter muscles—one on each side of your jaw.
