Understanding Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts, usually develops due to a hormonal imbalance. It can affect men at any age, and although it cannot harm your physical health, it can have a deeply distressing effect on your mental health and self-esteem. If you are upset by enlarged male breasts and you want to reduce them, gynecomastia surgery with Dr. Firouz can help.

A Precise Surgical Solution to Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia surgery is a specialized procedure that is done to reduce enlarged male breasts. In most cases, Dr. Firouz uses a combination of liposuction and surgical excision to flatten your chest and restore your masculine contours.

The Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery

  • Reduce the size of male breast tissue
  • Restore a flat and masculine chest
  • Improve your confidence and self-esteem

The Procedure

To begin the procedure, Dr. Firouz will administer general anesthesia. From there, he will tailor his surgical approach to your unique needs.

Most men require excision to address enlarged male breasts because this is the only solution that can remove the glandular tissue that is so common with gynecomastia. In most cases, Dr. Firouz will create an incision around the lower half of your areola and remove the glandular development through that opening.

If you require liposuction, Dr. Firouz will hide small incisions throughout your chest. He will then use a fine cannula to remove excess fat and sculpt the area with precision. Liposuction can treat puffy nipples associated with gynecomastia, as well as any excess fat in the area. Once your chest has been reshaped, Dr. Firouz will close the incisions and wrap a supportive garment to minimize swelling.

Your Recovery

You will return home immediately to begin the healing process. Your chest will feel sore during the first few days after surgery, but you should begin to feel better within a week. Most men can return to work in about two weeks. In the meantime, avoid lifting heavy objects and putting your hands above your head.

GynecomastiaFAQ

Can I treat gynecomastia with exercise?

Not usually. Most cases of gynecomastia are due to a hormonal imbalance, which exercise can’t address. In these cases, surgery is likely necessary. If your gynecomastia is due to obesity, losing weight may help. A full medical evaluation can help you determine the underlying cause of your enlarged male breasts so you can identify the ideal treatment approach.

When will I see the results?

You will see the full results of your gynecomastia surgery in three to six months. It takes that long for your breast tissue to heal and for all post-surgical swelling to dissipate.

Will I have any scarring?

Dr. Firouz will take great care to use the smallest incisions possible. In most cases, he will be able to hide them along your areolas. Once these lines are fully healed, the scars should be virtually imperceptible. If you need larger incisions that extend across your chest, he will hide them within your natural chest creases.
