Beverly Hills breast augmentation surgeon Dr. Jimmy S. Firouz specializes in breast, body and face procedures, with an extreme focus on breast augmentation. Also known as mammoplasty, breast augmentation is a surgical enhancement procedure to accentuate the size and shape of a woman’s breasts while enhancing the cleavage.
Breast augmentation is known to augment the breasts in size and make them proportional. Generally, patients opting to undergo this procedure are interested in increasing their cup size. This type of surgery does not move the breasts or lift the breasts. Interest in such a procedure would make a patient opt for a breast lift instead. However, breast augmentation and breast implant surgery aids patients in obtaining the full profile and volume they desire. Breast volume can be lost with time due to pregnancy, nursing or other physical changes the body may undergo. Patients who have also undergone breast reconstruction and want to gain a more natural look again may certainly opt for the breast augmentation procedure. Breast implant placement is of critical importance. There are two primary types of implant placement: Subglandular Placement and Subpectoral Placement. This will impact the overall result and appearance of your breast augmentation surgery and will be discussed with Dr. Firouz.

Why Patients Opt for Breast Augmentation Surgery
Even though each patient is unique, there are several reasons why someone may want to undergo a breast augmentation. It’s possible that a patient may lack self confidence, or that the patient has always wanted a new and improved body image. Whatever the reason, Dr. Firouz, a double board-certified plastic surgeon, is ready to help each patient achieve their goals. Some common reasons for considering breast augmentation include:
- Enhance body shape if breasts are too small.
- Augment lost breast volume as a result of pregnancy and nursing.
- Gain breast symmetry by making both breasts proportional in size and shape.
- Reconstruct the breasts when necessary.
Personal Preferences for Breast Implants and Augmentation
Every patient is unique and has her own personal preference for the size and shape of her breast implants. Together, you and Dr. Firouz will determine the appropriate implant size, type of implant, location of the incision, and whether the implant will be placed above or beneath the muscle.
Breast augmentation surgery is commonly performed on an outpatient basis at a hospital or state-of-the-art surgery center while the patient is under general anesthesia. Breast augmentation involves making a small incision to insert a breast implant into the newly created breast pocket to enlarge the breast. There are several possible locations at which Dr. Firouz can make the incision. The location of the incisions vary depending on the type of implant, degree of enlargement desired, and your particular anatomy, among other things. The most common technique utilizes an incision made in the lower portion of the breast. Other techniques, though less frequently used, involve making an incision in the armpit or making an incision around the lower edge of the areola. During your consultation, plastic surgeon Dr. Firouz will explain each technique in detail so you can determine which procedure is best for you.
During your breast augmentation surgery, an open pocket is created under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. When an implant is inserted behind each breast, the patient's volume and breast size will certainly increase cup sizes. Surgery typically lasts from one to three hours. Dr. Firouz will give you more information about the length of your surgery during your consultation.
What Does Recovery Entail after a Breast Enhancement Procedure?
Generally, post-operative instructions call for plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time. Bandages are applied right after surgery to aid the healing process and to minimize movement of the breasts. Afterwards, the bandages are removed and a special surgical bra needs to be worn during the patient's recovery for several weeks. This is to ensure proper healing of the breasts post-procedure. While some patients report mild pain after the surgery, such pain can be treated with oral medication. Complications are rare and potential risks can be minimized by carefully following the doctor's detailed instructions. Dr. Firouz recommends his patients rest during the initial days and weeks following the breast implant surgery.
