The procedure proceeds as follows: The surgeon measures the excess skin on the labia and marks it symmetrically to allow for a precise extraction of that skin. The skin is removed by scalpel or surgically with scissors. Finally, at the end of the procedure- sutures are applied to close the incisions. Dr. Firouz utilizes absorbable sutures eliminating the need for a follow up procedure to remove the sutures. Throughout the entire procedure, Dr. Firouz uses minimally invasive and delicate surgical techniques to provide his patients with optimal results. Recovery and Healing after Surgery is Complete

Using the most advanced surgical techniques in labiaplasty, Dr. Firouz patients typically experience less scarring, swelling, bruising and pain during their labiaplasty recovery. While this procedure has a relatively short recovery time, patients should expect to experience some swelling and discomfort after surgery. After one week, swelling will begin to subside.   • Q: How long should I wait for my labiaplasty revision?

    It has been a little over 3 month since my labiaplasty procedure. I am very satisfied with my final results. I underwent trim method. I had asymmetry to begin with and it wasn’t completely resolved which is why I want to undergo a revision to get as close to symmetrical appearance as possible. How long should i wait until my revision? What are your thoughts on this?

    A: I tell patients they need to wait 6 – 12 months before undergoing a revision labiaplasty to give the body enough time to finish healing. You do not want to undergo another surgery until you are sure your body has completely healed from the initial surgery. Also, find a surgeon who can give you realistic expectations for giving you the symmetrical results you want. If you are going to undergo a second surgery, confirm with the surgeon that they are confident symmetry can be achieved. Best of luck!

  • Q: What type of after care should I be doing after 3 weeks for labiaplasty?

    I had the trimming technique 3 weeks ago for my Labia minora and am wondering what aftercare I should use now. I’ve had thrush so have been quite swollen. Are there ways to minimize swelling and also to minimize the bumps that are from stitching? Thank you.

    A: I recommend contacting your surgeon’s office immediately. Every surgeon performs the procedure a little differently and therefore has different after care instructions. At 3 weeks post-op most of my patients are feeling great and are almost done with their initial recovery. Since you are still experiencing a lot of swelling, I think the best thing to do is go and see your surgeon for a post-op exam and see what he can recommend for you to help with your recovery process.   • Q: How many surgeons should I see for consultations?

    I am very ready to have labiaplasty and have done a lot of research. I have narrowed it down to three plastic surgeons who I feel are the best options in my area. I have scheduled consultations with all three and plan on going with whoever I feel the most comfortable with, has the most experience with labiaplasty and the best outcomes. I didn’t want to just pick one surgeon without speaking with any others. Is this a good start to interview three docs? Should I interview more? Thanks in advance!

    A: It sounds like you are off to a great start doing some preliminary research and having scheduled 3 consultations. What you are doing is exactly what every patient should be doing before booking a labiaplasty. Make sure that all of the surgeons you meet with are board-certified plastic surgeons, with a lot of experience in labiaplasty procedures. Ask to see before and after pictures of their previous patients so you can get a good idea of what sort of results to expect. Make sure you ask all of the questions you have about the procedure and recovery. The way the surgeon answers the questions will often help you decide whether or not that surgeon is the one for you.     A: It is normal for the inner labia to be visible, however if this appearance is bothering you, I recommend you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to see if you are a candidate for a labiaplasty. In terms of you saying your “outer lips are not intact,” I am not quite sure what you mean by this and would to see a picture or examine you in person to give you a proper opinion.

  • Q: Vaginal tightening. Am I better off getting the operation done by a plastic surgeon or a gynecologal surgeon?

    I’ve had 2 vaginal deliveries and I want to get my vagina tightened. I’m a better off getting the operation done by a plastic surgeon or a gynecologal surgeon?

    A: This is a great question that I hear from patients a lot. Both plastic surgeons and gynecological surgeons are qualified to perform this surgery. However, with that said, you should find a surgeon who performs this surgery regularly in order to provide you with the best results. I recommend you consult with a few surgeons and ask questions like how many vaginal tightening procedures they perform, do they have any before/after pictures to show you, what sort of training did they receive, etc. Having the answers to these questions will help you determine if the surgeon is qualified to perform this procedure well. And finally, make sure you feel 100% comfortable and confident with the surgeon you choose. Hope that helps!
