What Kind of Questions to Ask at a Consultation
Is the surgeon board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?
Any “Board Certification” other than “Board Certified in Plastic Surgery” is NOT the same and usually indicates that the doctor has had significantly less training. Verify the plastic surgeon is board certified in plastic surgery by looking him or her up online at the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
- Dr. Firouz is doubled board certified in plastic surgery as well as general surgery.
Is the surgeon a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons?
Anyone can wear a white coat, but not everyone is board certified in plastic surgery.
Is the surgeon authorized to perform the procedure and/or have privileges at a hospital?
Plastic surgeons who are trained to perform certain procedures are allowed by hospitals to perform them. Hospitals review such surgeon’s education and training. They also have committees in place to monitor potential problems to insure patient protection.
- Dr. Firouz has privileges at Cedars-Sinai and is able to perform procedures there.
If the surgeon operates in a private ambulatory facility, a good question to ask is whether it is an accredited facility.
For all your plastic surgery needs, trust only an accredited facility and board-certified plastic surgeon for your health and well being during a surgical procedure. An accredited facility is a member of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). Such facility accreditation reflects an optimal standard of care within industry standards. Although not legally required, it is better to opt for a facility with strict requirements regarding the operation and routine daily activities with an influx of patients. Levels of cleanliness, sterility and other safety procedures are implemented. For example, an accredited facility by this association will be inspected every 3 years. Also, the routine operations of a facility are beneficial whether you are opting for a minimally invasive surgery or a more extensive procedure like a breast augmentation, mommy makeover or tummy tuck.
- Dr. Firouz performs surgery at Multispecialty Surgical Group, a fully accredited facility .
Do you feel comfortable with the surgeon?
Feeling comfortable with the surgeon can actually effect the outcome because it may cause you to become more stressed if you have a surgeon that you do not feel at ease with. You may also be hesitant to ask questions that are important about your recovery and possible outcome.
- Dr. Firouz prides himself on having impeccable bedside manners. He treats every patient like they are a part of his family and patiently answers every question. Whether you had surgery a day ago or ten years ago, he is very thorough and accommodating to any questions you may have regarding the procedure you had with him.
Do you feel comfortable with the staff?
Trusting the staff is also a very important aspect in deciding on your surgeon. The staff is important as you will be spending a lot of time with them as well as the surgeon.
- At Dr. Firouz’s office, we pride ourselves with having patience and understanding throughout the entire surgery process. From the receptionists, to the nurses and the Plastic Surgery Coordinator, you will feel at home and confident with your decisions. Our team will be there for you not only to book your procedure but also as a confidant.
